Osteoarthritis Foundation International (OAFI)
Products and Services
OAFI organizes and develops activities to engage patients in R&D projects, ensuring that results meet the needs and expectations of the final users, the patients themselves. To achieve this, OAFI conducts activities such as characterizing the perception of quality of life (QoL) among patients undergoing therapy in the development process, organizing focus groups with patients, and conducting individual interviews and surveys to gather information for assessing market acceptance. The conclusions drawn are crucial for capturing the attention of stakeholders, the scientific community, and public authorities.
Moreover, we are co-leading the international OA Patient Force with the Arthritis Foundation (USA), which is formed by organisations of patients around the world such as the Pan-American League of Rheumatology Associations – PANLAR, Association Francaise de Lutte AntiRhumatismale (AFLAR, France), ReumaNederland (Nederland), Fondation Arthrose (Belgium), Arthrose Forum Austria ArthroseKompetenzNetzwerk TEPFIT e.V. (Germany) and Liga Portuguesa Contra as Doenças Reumáticas (Portugal). We work together to improve the quality of life of osteoarthritis patients and stablish synergies between patients’ organizations worldwide.
In terms of public and patient engagement, OAFI maintains a strong presence across various platforms including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, and YouTube, engaging with a wide audience and patient community. In 2021 alone, OAFI reached an estimated 2 million individuals. Additionally, OAFI receives media coverage on radio, television, and in the press throughout Spain.
Moreover, our engagement extends beyond digital platforms. Public events organized by OAFI serve as vital opportunities for knowledge exchange and social awareness. For instance, our International Congress of Osteoarthritis Patients convenes annually, providing a platform for patients with osteoarthritis and at-risk groups to enhance their quality of life.
Additionally, our Annual Symposium of Sports Medicine, held in collaboration with esteemed partners such as the Spanish Olympic Committee and the Foundation of Atletico Football Club of Madrid, brings together national sports federations, healthcare professionals, athletes, and the press to foster dialogue and advancements in sports medicine.
